Daily Itinerary for Architecture Tour (10 Days)

Day 1: Arrival in Paro – Drive to Thimphu
Upon arrival at Paro International Airport, you will be warmly welcomed by your guide. Begin your journey with a scenic drive to Thimphu, the capital city of Bhutan, which takes approximately 1.5 hours. Along the way, enjoy the beautiful landscape of lush green valleys and traditional Bhutanese houses. Upon arrival in Thimphu, check into your hotel and take some time to relax. In the evening, explore Thimphu town at your leisure or rest at your hotel in preparation for the days ahead.

Day 2: Thimphu Sightseeing
Visit Tashichho Dzong, a grand fortress and monastery that serves as the seat of the government and the summer residence of the monastic body. In the afternoon, explore the National Memorial Chorten and the Folk Heritage Museum to understand traditional Bhutanese architecture and lifestyle.

Day 3: Thimphu Sightseeing
Visit the Buddha Dordenma, a massive statue that overlooks the Thimphu Valley. Then, head to the National Library, known for its traditional Bhutanese architecture. Continue to the Royal Textile Academy to see the intricate art of Bhutanese weaving. In the afternoon, visit the Changangkha Lhakhang, a historic temple perched on a ridge above Thimphu.

Day 4: Thimphu to Punakha
Drive to Punakha, crossing the Dochula Pass, which offers panoramic views of the Himalayas. In Punakha, visit the Punakha Dzong, one of Bhutan’s most beautiful and architecturally significant dzongs, located at the confluence of the Pho and Mo Chhu rivers. Explore the dzong’s impressive courtyards, temples, and paintings. Check into your hotel in Punakha.

Day 5: Punakha – Excursion to Chimi Lhakhang and Khamsum Yulley Namgyal Chorten
Visit Chimi Lhakhang, also known as the Fertility Temple, renowned for its unique architecture and cultural significance. Afterward, hike to the Khamsum Yulley Namgyal Chorten, a beautiful stupa with intricate Bhutanese architectural details and panoramic views of the valley. Return to Punakha for an evening at leisure.

Day 7: Paro – Visit Drukgyel Dzong and Dungtse Lhakhang
Visit Drukgyel Dzong, a fortress built to commemorate Bhutan’s victory over Tibetan invaders, offering a glimpse into Bhutan’s military architecture. Continue to Dungtse Lhakhang, a unique temple built in the form of a chorten, filled with rare and detailed religious paintings. Spend the rest of the day exploring Paro town.

Take a scenic drive to Chele La Pass, the highest motorable point in Bhutan. Enjoy the stunning views and visit the Kila Nunnery, an ancient site of religious practice. The nunnery’s traditional architecture and serene setting provide a peaceful retreat. Return to Paro for a relaxing evening.

Day 9: Paro – Hike to Tiger’s Nest Monastery
Embark on a memorable hike to the iconic Taktsang Monastery (Tiger’s Nest), perched on a cliff 900 meters above the Paro Valley. The monastery is a stunning example of Bhutanese architecture integrated with nature. After descending, return to Paro for a relaxing evening at your hotel.
