Daily Itinerary for East-West Bhutan Tour (14 Days)

  • Day 1: Arrival in Paro

    Arrive at Paro International Airport where you will be greeted by your guide. After settling in, visit the Paro Rinpung Dzong, a fortress monastery with a fascinating history. Then, explore the Ta Dzong, now the National Museum, which houses a stunning collection of Bhutanese art and artifacts. Spend the evening exploring Paro town before retiring to your hotel. Overnight in Paro.

  • Day 2: Paro - Taktsang Monastery

    Embark on a hike to the iconic Taktsang Monastery (Tiger's Nest), perched precariously on a cliffside. The hike offers breathtaking views and a chance to explore one of Bhutan’s most sacred sites. After descending, visit Kyichu Lhakhang, one of the oldest and most revered temples in Bhutan. Relax for the evening back in Paro. Overnight in Paro.

  • Day 3: Paro to Thimphu

    Drive to Thimphu, the capital city of Bhutan, which takes about 1.5 hours. Visit Tashichho Dzong, the impressive fortress-monastery and seat of the government. Then, see the giant Buddha Dordenma statue and the National Memorial Chorten. Spend the evening exploring Thimphu’s local markets and shops. Overnight in Thimphu.

  • Day 4: Thimphu to Punakha

    Drive to Punakha, passing through the scenic Dochula Pass, which offers panoramic views of the Himalayas and is adorned with 108 chortens. In Punakha, visit the Punakha Dzong, an architectural masterpiece situated at the confluence of the Pho Chhu and Mo Chhu rivers. Later, walk across the longest suspension bridge in Bhutan. Overnight in Punakha.

  • Day 5: Punakha Sightseeing

    Hike to the Khamsum Yulley Namgyal Chorten, a splendid example of Bhutanese architecture, offering beautiful views of the Punakha Valley. In the afternoon, visit Chimi Lhakhang, the temple of fertility associated with the legendary Divine Madman, Lama Drukpa Kunley. Spend the evening relaxing. Overnight in Punakha.

  • Day 6: Punakha to Trongsa

    Drive to Trongsa, a journey of approximately 6 hours, passing through picturesque landscapes. On arrival, visit the majestic Trongsa Dzong, a historic fortress with stunning views of the valley, and the Ta Dzong, which now serves as a museum. Explore Trongsa town in the evening. Overnight in Trongsa.

  • Day 7: Trongsa to Bumthang

    Drive to Bumthang, a 3-hour journey through scenic countryside. In Bumthang, visit Jakar Dzong, known as the "Castle of the White Bird," and Kurjey Lhakhang, a sacred site linked to Guru Rinpoche. Spend the evening exploring the Bumthang Valley, known for its spiritual significance and natural beauty. Overnight in Bumthang.

  • Day 8: Bumthang Sightseeing

    Spend the day exploring Bumthang’s cultural and spiritual sites, including Jambay Lhakhang, one of the oldest temples in Bhutan, and Tamshing Lhakhang, known for its ancient wall paintings. Visit Membartsho (Burning Lake), a sacred pilgrimage site. Enjoy the evening at your leisure. Overnight in Bumthang.

  • Day 9: Bumthang to Mongar

    Drive to Mongar, a 6-hour journey through the scenic landscapes of eastern Bhutan. Upon arrival, visit Mongar Dzong, a relatively new dzong built in the traditional Bhutanese style. Spend the evening exploring Mongar town. Overnight in Mongar.

  • Day 10: Mongar to Trashigang

    Drive to Trashigang, approximately 3 hours away. Visit Trashigang Dzong, an important administrative and monastic center. Spend the rest of the day exploring Trashigang town and its surroundings. Overnight in Trashigang.

  • Day 12: Trashigang to Samdrup Jongkhar

    Drive to Samdrup Jongkhar, a journey of about 6 hours. Explore the town, which borders India, and experience the blend of Bhutanese and Indian cultures. Spend the evening at leisure. Overnight in Samdrup Jongkhar.

  • Day 13: Departure from Samdrup Jongkhar

    In the morning, transfer to Guwahati Airport in India, about a 3-hour drive, for your departure flight. Reflect on the incredible journey across Bhutan, from the west to the east, as you head home.
