The 8-day “Simple Hiking” tour offers a blend of Bhutan’s cultural heritage and natural beauty. Begin in Paro with a scenic drive to Thimphu, followed by sightseeing and treks in Thimphu, Punakha, and Gangtey. Daily Itinerary for Simple Hiking Tour (8 Days)

  • Day 1 | Arrival in Paro (drive to Thimphu)

    The flight to Paro is one of the most spectacular of all the mountain flights. Landing in Paro International airport shall be one of your best and the most adventurous. As the plane glides through narrow valley between towering mountains, the beautiful Paro valley with lush environment and fresh air shall greet you. Our company representatives will receive you with the warmest welcome and heartiest greetings. Meandering along Paro and Thimphu River we will be driving to Thimphu, the capital city of Bhutan. Upon arrival in Thimphu, we will stroll around and do a quick sightseeing.

  • Day 2 | Sightseeing in Thimphu.

    Your second day in Bhutan is going to begin with a moderate trekking. The trek route will take approximately 6 hours to complete and the trek will take you to an altitude of approximately 3000metres. The entire route will take you through green lush forests overlooking the capital city. We might want to visit the Buddhist temples enroute. The first half of the hike will be trekking uphills and the later part of the day will be descending.

  • Day 3 | Thimphu – Punakha

    We will be moving to Punakha, the old capital of Bhutan, a very historical place. We will cross the stunning Dochu-La pass and further hike down to Thinleygang. We will be trodding through the ancient footpath that was used as a highway by our ancestors. Your guide will share some tales and stories reminiscing the Good Old Bhutan. The trek will take approximately 4 to 5 hours. By evening we will arrive in Punakha and stroll around in the town. We will be descending to an altitude below 1000m, so be prepared to experience some humidity. Dochu La Pass (3150 m) We can enjoy the spectacular views of the Eastern Himalayan Mountain ranges. Take a walk around the 108 stupas which decorates the pass. The 108 chortens were built by the present Queen Mother of Bhutan Ashi Dorji Wangmo Wangchuck to commemorate Bhutan’s victory over Indian militants. The chortens were built as a gratitude to the fourth king of Bhutan.

  • Day 4 | Punakha to Gangtey

    After a comfortable breakfast, we will stroll out of the hotel and proceed towards Gangtey. The drive is going to be approximately for 3 hours. Before we head on for Gangtey, we will visit few cultural places in and around Punakha.

  • Day 5 | Gangtey to Paro

    We are going to have yet another beautiful trek. It is called Shasila Trek. One of the least taken trek route. In olden days, this route was famously used by people of Gangtey to migrate to their cattles to lower valleys during the winter and vice versa. People in Gangtey used to live a nomadic life until a decade ago. The route meanders through thick bamboo and lush green forests. The trek will take approximately 4 to 5 hours and will terminate at Khelakha. After connecting to the national highway, we will drive back to Paro. The drive might take approximately 5 hours. We will arrive late into the day.

  • Day 6 | Paro sightseeing

    A comfortable day in Paro, after a very laid- back breakfast we will drive to the highest motorable road point in Bhutan and trek up to an altitude beyond 12000ft. We will visit the air burial spot in Chelala and descend to Kila Goempa, a buddhist nunnery. The trek will take you will present you with stunning mountain views. It will take approximately 2 to 3 hours walk. We return to Paro and stroll around in the town.

  • Day 7 | Paro sightseeing

    Following breakfast, drive 10km north through the beautiful valley of Paro and hike to Taktsang (tiger's Den) monastery perched on a cliff 800m above the valley. In the 8th century Guru Rimpoche flew here on the back of a tigress in one of his eight forms called Guru Dorje Drolo and meditated for 3 months in a cave and converted Paro valley into Buddhism. Taktsang meaning; tiger's lair in the same spot where Guru meditated. This temple is one of the most sacred and also a pilgrimage centre for Buddhists from all over the world. It was completely burnt down in 1998 and re-built with help from Bhutan government, individual donors and financial supports from other nations. It takes 2 hours ascend till the closest view point and 1 hour descend to the valley. Stop at tourism café situated half way for refreshment. On your way back, you again stop at the café for lunch. Later in the evening, our lodge will prepare us for a soothing and easing hot stone bath. It is a kind of therapy, a knowledge passed on from our ancestors. The bath will really ease the pains in our muscles, joints and it is also helpful to mitigate stress.

  • Day 8: Departure

    We will transfer to the airport and bid farewell.
