Embark on the Jomolhari Yaktsa Trek, a 10-day adventure through Bhutan’s stunning landscapes. Starting in Paro, acclimatize with a hike to Taktsang Monastery. Daily Itinerary for Jomolhari Yaktsa Trek (10 Days)

  • Day 1: Arrival in Paro (2,250 meters)

    Upon arrival at Paro International Airport (2,250 meters), you'll be welcomed by the serene beauty of Paro Valley. Spend the day visiting Rinpung Dzong and the National Museum to get acquainted with Bhutan's rich cultural heritage. Stay overnight in Paro, preparing for the trek ahead.

  • Day 2: Paro - Taktsang Monastery (Tiger's Nest) for Acclimatization (3,120 meters)

    Embark on a hike to the iconic Taktsang Monastery, also known as Tiger's Nest (3,120 meters). This sacred site perched on a cliffside offers breathtaking views and helps with acclimatization due to its elevation. Return to Paro in the afternoon, and spend the night there.

  • Day 3: Paro to Shana (2,850 meters)

    Begin your adventure with a drive to Drukgyel Dzong, where your trek starts. Hike through picturesque landscapes to reach Shana, surrounded by lush forests and river views. The trek takes approximately 5-6 hours, reaching an altitude of 2,850 meters. Camp overnight at Shana.

  • Day 4: Shana to Soi Thangthangkha (3,750 meters)

    Continue trekking alongside the Pa Chu River, passing through pine and rhododendron forests. This day's trek is longer, around 7-8 hours, ascending to an altitude of 3,750 meters. Enjoy the natural beauty and tranquility as you camp at Soi Thangthangkha for the night.

  • Day 5: Soi Thangthangkha to Jangothang (4,040 meters)

    Trek towards Jangothang, where you'll be greeted by stunning views of Mount Jomolhari. This 5-6 hour trek leads you to an altitude of 4,040 meters. Set up camp at Jangothang, a beautiful location often referred to as the base camp for Jomolhari.

  • Day 6: Jangothang - Acclimatization Day (4,040 meters)

    Spend the day acclimatizing at Jangothang to adjust to the higher altitude. You can opt for an exploratory hike to Tsophu Lake or the Jomolhari Glacier. Enjoy a restful night at the Jangothang campsite, preparing for the higher altitudes ahead.

  • Day 7: Jangothang to Yaktsa (Dhumzo) (3,800 meters)

    Trek over Bhonte La Pass at 4,890 meters, experiencing breathtaking views before descending to Yaktsa. This 7-8 hour trek brings you to an altitude of 3,800 meters. Camp overnight in the serene surroundings of Yaktsa.

  • Day 8: Yaktsa to Thombu Shong (4,180 meters)

    Climb to the Tagulun La Pass at 4,520 meters, then descend to the picturesque Thombu Shong. This day's trek takes approximately 5-6 hours, reaching an altitude of 4,180 meters. Set up camp and enjoy the peaceful environment of Thombu Shong.

  • Day 9: Thombu Shong to Paro (2,250 meters)

    Trek over Thombu La Pass at 4,380 meters, followed by a descent back to Shana. Continue your journey with a hike to Drukgyel Dzong, then drive back to Paro. This longer trek, around 7-8 hours, brings you back to an altitude of 2,250 meters. Once back in Paro, relax and celebrate the successful completion of your trek with an overnight stay.

  • Day 10: Departure from Paro (2,250 meters)

    Transfer to Paro International Airport for your departure, carrying with you unforgettable memories of the Yaktsa Trek and Bhutan's pristine landscapes. Safe travels!
