Daily Itinerary for Dala Trek (8 Days)

Day 1: Arrival in Paro (2,250 meters)
Arrive at Paro International Airport and transfer to your accommodation. Spend the day exploring Paro, visiting Rinpung Dzong and the National Museum to immerse yourself in Bhutanese culture and history. Enjoy the serene beauty of the valley and prepare for the trek ahead. Rest and acclimate in Paro, staying overnight to ensure you are well-prepared for the journey.

Day 2: Paro - Taktsang Monastery (Tiger’s Nest) (3,120 meters)
Hike to the iconic Taktsang Monastery, perched on a cliffside. This challenging yet rewarding trek helps with acclimatization while offering breathtaking views of the Paro Valley. Explore the monastery and learn about its significance in Bhutanese culture. Return to Paro in the afternoon for some relaxation. Overnight stay in Paro.

Day 3: Paro – Genekha – Gur (2,800 meters to 3,290 meters)
Drive 45 km from Thimphu to Genekha, the starting point of the Dagala Trek. Trek 7 km through terraced fields and coniferous forests. After crossing a river, ascend to a rock platform with picturesque valley views. Continue trekking until you reach Gur, a serene yak pasture at 3,290 meters. Camp overnight at Gur.

Day 4: Gur – Labatama (3,290 meters to 4,100 meters)
Trek 12 km from Gur to Labatama, traversing alpine meadows and ridges. Enjoy views of wildflowers and rugged mountain vegetation. Cross a high pass with spectacular views of Kanchenjunga and Bhutanese Himalayan peaks. Descend into the Labatama Valley, passing yak herder huts. Reach Utsho Lake, known for golden trout. Camp by the lake at 4,100 meters.

Day 5: Halt at Labatama
Spend the day exploring Sertsho and Jagetsho Lakes. Hike up to Sertsho Lake, then cross a small ridge to reach Jagetsho Lake. Alternatively, attempt to summit Aum Jomo (5,000 meters) if conditions permit. From the peak, enjoy breathtaking views of the Dagala range. Return to the Labatama campsite by dusk to prepare for the next day’s trek.

Day 6: Labatama – Pankha (4,100 meters to 4,000 meters)
Trek 8 km from Labatama to Pankha, crossing a saddle at 4,520 meters. Enjoy majestic views of Himalayan peaks, including Everest and Kanchenjunga. Descend past yak herder huts and follow the Docha Chu River. The trail has several ups and downs before reaching Pankha. Camp at 4,000 meters. Note: In spring, you may need to hike an additional 1.5 hours to find water.

Day 7: Pankha – Chamgang – Thimphu (4,000 meters to 2,350 meters)
Start early for a 14 km trek, crossing multiple impressive passes. Look out for varieties of Blue Poppy and mountain birds. Gradually descend toward the main junction pass. Take a short descent, then turn left horizontally towards Chamgang. After crossing a few ridges, descend steeply to Chamgang village. Transfer to Thimphu by vehicle. Overnight stay in Thimphu.

Day 8: Departure from Thimphu
Transfer to Paro International Airport for your departure. Reflect on the incredible experiences and stunning landscapes of the Dagala Trek as you prepare to head home. Take with you cherished memories of Bhutan’s natural beauty and cultural richness. Safe travels and farewell!
