Our experience with The Green Dot Bhutan Tours was exceptional. We were guided by Pema and driven by Sonam, and we feel fortunate to have had them. Pema’s deep knowledge and detailed explanations stood out, especially compared to other guides; he was so much more passionate. Pema and Sonam often extended their hours, making extra stops—like a visit to the Paro vegetable market—and suggesting unique alternatives to typical tourist spots, such as a meal at a heritage restaurant and a traditional hot stone massage. My trip to Bhutan was quite short, only 2 nights and 3 days. As a recent college graduate looking to explore nature and disconnect from the city/the chaos of work, I wanted to cover as much as I possibly could (a very different approach from most of what I read/saw online).
Tashi from Green Dot tours was an exceptional tour guide. Every expense, including food transport and hotels, was handled (I didn't even carry cash, Tashi paid for souvenirs and I paid him in USD at end of trip at the real exchange rate). We covered everything I wanted to see and more:
- Day 1: flight arrival early morning, Dochula Pass, drive to Chime Lhakhang, drive to Punakha, visit Punakha Dzong (my favorite), rafting, crossing the longest suspension bridge
- Day 2: early wake up, drive back to Dochula Pass taking in the sunny mist, biking from Dochula Pass to Thimphu outskirts, Buddha Dordenma statue, Tiger's Nest Hike, National Museum
- Day 3: Early drive to Haa Dzongkhag, take in the mountain views see yaks and the valley below, riverside lunch in Paro, watch traditional archery and try myself, souveniers
Tashi went above and beyond, buying me medicine when I was sick, taking photos for me at different sites, giving detailed explanations of history and future plans catered to my interests (crypto and technology), translating with locals, and gave me a parting gift.
I was worried about using a guide, let alone someone who would ensure I tried everything out - Tashi and Green Dot were amazing and affordable, and I will recommend them to all friends and family.

I landed at Paro airport passed immigration which in Bhutan is a friendly experience. Outside were Pema and Lop Jhang Dorji, waiting for me. Then comfort then started. Such a warm welcome and in the car I was explained a detailed plan of my trip by Pema. He speaks fluent English. In the evening I met with Tashi the owner of Green Dot travels and we went for a traditional Bhutanese dinner in a traditional Bhutanese restaurant which is in a traditional house in Thimphu.
The next day we went around Thimphu and saw wonderful places like the arts and craft school, textile center and traditional experience. We then drove to Punakaha and then to Bhumthang and then to Phobjika and all over the place.
At every place we had comfortable stay in 3 star hotels. Great meals and best was guide Pema and driver Lop Jhang were always ready on time.
Dorji is a great driver on those rippling roads on the mountains and knew every road at all places. His driving was very safe and comfortable. Never risky. He was courteous to other vehicles on the road. Oh and I forgot always smiling.
Pema the guide knows every bit of history and could explain any painting, statue or idol in any fortress, temple or stupa. I was impressed with his knowledge.
Tashi could be reached anytime. I never needed his help because everything was planned every well. My messages to him were only to tell him all is well!
The guide accompanies you everywhere we go and helped interpreting too.
I am planning another trip and hope I can do some treks because Green Dot can make arrangements for that too. Their website is informative and lists the things we can do under different heads. Best is even among these listed tour packages one can customize within a particular package.

Pema our guide was very knowledgeable of Bhutanese history and tradition, and Sonam our driver was very patient and drove us safely and also gave us enough time for breaks and stopover to take pictures.
Overall we had a wonderful trip and a good time. Even though we are back our heart is still in Bhutan.
