The Rhododendron Festival tour in Bhutan offers a vibrant blend of culture, nature, and adventure. Spanning seven days, the journey begins in Paro and explores Thimphu’s cultural sites before heading to Lamperi Botanical Park for the Rhododendron Festival. Visitors can enjoy traditional dances, arts and crafts, and scenic hikes amidst blooming rhododendrons. The tour continues to Punakha’s historic sites and concludes with a hike to the iconic Tiger’s Nest Monastery, offering a comprehensive Bhutanese experience.

Daily Itinerary for Rhododendron Festival (7 Days)

  • Day 1: Arrive Paro – Thimphu Sightseeing

    Upon arrival at Paro International Airport, you will be greeted and transferred to Thimphu, a scenic 54 km drive taking about an hour. Once in Thimphu, visit the towering Buddha Dordenma statue, explore the National Memorial Chorten, and take a tour of Tashichho Dzong, the seat of Bhutan’s government and monastic body. In the evening, enjoy a leisurely stroll through Thimphu town.

  • Day 2: Thimphu Sightseeing

    Spend the day exploring Thimphu’s cultural treasures. Start with a visit to the Folk Heritage Museum to get a glimpse into traditional Bhutanese life. Continue to the National Institute for Zorig Chusum, where students learn Bhutan's 13 traditional arts and crafts. In the afternoon, visit the Motithang Takin Preserve to see Bhutan's national animal, the takin, and end the day shopping for local handicrafts at the Craft Bazaar.

  • Day 3: Thimphu to Rhododendron Festival at Lamperi

    Drive 76 km (approximately 2 hours) to Lamperi Botanical Park to attend the Rhododendron Festival. The festival is set amidst a beautiful natural park, where you can enjoy traditional Bhutanese dances, explore local arts and crafts, and taste regional cuisine. Take the time to hike the park’s trails, which showcase a variety of rhododendron species in full bloom. After a day immersed in nature and culture, return to Thimphu for the night.

  • Day 4: Punakha Sightseeing

    Depart from Thimphu and drive to Punakha, passing through the scenic Dochula Pass, which offers panoramic views of the Himalayas. In Punakha, visit the majestic Punakha Dzong, one of Bhutan's most beautiful and significant fortresses. Later, explore the nearby Chimi Lhakhang, also known as the Temple of Fertility, famous for its blessings for fertility and children.

  • Day 5: Punakha to Paro Sightseeing

    Begin your journey back to Paro, a 130 km drive that takes about 4 hours. Along the way, make scenic stops, including a visit to Dochula Pass for a picnic lunch. Once in Paro, spend the afternoon exploring the town, visiting sites such as the Paro Rinpung Dzong and the Ta Dzong, which houses the National Museum.

  • Day 6: Paro Sightseeing – Hike to Tiger’s Nest Monastery

    Start your day with a hike to the iconic Taktsang Monastery, also known as the Tiger’s Nest. This challenging 7 km hike, which takes around 4 hours, rewards you with breathtaking views and the opportunity to visit one of Bhutan’s most revered religious sites. After descending, return to Paro and relax with a hot stone bath at a local farmhouse, followed by a farewell dinner featuring traditional Bhutanese cuisine.

  • Day 7: Paro – Departure

    On your final day, enjoy a relaxed morning before heading to Paro International Airport for your departure, concluding your memorable journey through Bhutan.
